Maritime transport accounts for over 80% of world trade by volume, and represents almost 3% of CO\u2082 emissions on a global scale. Faced with the climate objectives of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which is aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050, the sector needs to accelerate the adoption of sustainable fuels to reduce its environmental impact.<\/p>\n
The main regulation supporting the incorporation of alternative fuels into marine fuels is the Fuel EU Maritime regulation. For the time being, this regulation only supports the incorporation of alternative fuels produced from residues, waste or renewable electricity.<\/p>\n
Worldwide standardization work is currently underway to standardize a bioethanol or bioethanol\/methanol fuel for combustion in marine engines.<\/p>\n
